If you’re new to 5 elements massage therapy, you likely have many questions about what to expect from your massage appointment and how it can benefit you. That’s why we’ve created a comprehensive massage therapy FAQ section to help answer some of the most common questions we receive from our clients. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about massage therapy:

Thai Element Massage

Thai massage is a therapeutic bodywork treatment that blends acupressure with assisted yoga postures, performed while you relax on a floor mat. The therapist uses their body weight to apply deep, rhythmic pressure to your muscles, promoting release and relaxation. Incorporating essential oils aligned with the 5 Elements, the experience also supports energetic balance. Throughout the session, your only role is to unwind, as the practitioner maintains continuous contact using both hands and feet to guide your body into a state of harmony and ease.
Thai massage is a unique healing practice that combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures, performed while you lie comfortably on a floor mat. Using their body weight, the therapist applies deep, rhythmic pressure to release tension in the muscles. Essential oils corresponding to the 5 Elements are also used to promote energetic balance and well-being. Throughout the session, all you need to do is relax, as the practitioner maintains constant contact using both hands and feet to guide your body through this deeply restorative experience.

Thai Herbal Compress Massage

Staying true to traditional methods, a muslin cloth is filled with a blend of herbs and spices, then steamed to activate their healing properties. The therapist gently moves these warm herbal compresses across your body in circular motions, helping to release toxins, soothe tension, and allow therapeutic heat to deeply penetrate the tissues.

Just ask your therapist what herbs are used when you book and they’ll be able to tailor your treatment accordingly.

Herbal Compress Massage is well-known for its relaxation qualities, but this flower-bursting pick-me-up can also improve blood circulation and promote cell growth. As the heat of the muslin cloth warms the skin, blood vessels across the body begin to dilate which kickstarts the efficiency of different internal organs.

Herbs used in the compress can do different things for different parts of the body: lemongrass and kaffir lime boosts the immune system, turmeric contains anti-inflammatories and tamarind can improve skin complexion.

Thai Herbal Sauna Wrap

Thai Herbal Body Wraps offer a deeply relaxing experience that goes beyond physical relief, promoting a sense of Sabai—a state of pure bliss and balance. This treatment helps reduce stress, fatigue, inflammation, and tension while enhancing emotional and physical well-being. The gentle heat and healing properties of the herbs support improved blood and lymph circulation, stimulate internal organs, and open the Sen Sib energy lines—similar to Chinese meridians—allowing healing energy to flow freely. Additionally, the herbal blend benefits the sinuses, skin, respiratory system, heart, and digestion, making it a truly holistic wellness experience.

For the next three days, aim to drink 6–8 glasses of water daily. This helps your body flush out toxins. A good rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces—for example, if you weigh 160 lbs, drink around 80 ounces (10 glasses) of water.

Avoid showering for at least 12 hours after your body wrap. Let the herbal solution stay on your skin to fully absorb and maximize its benefits.

Set aside around 2 hours for your body wrap treatment to enjoy the full experience without rushing. You’ll be wrapped up and relaxing on a comfortable bed for about 15–20 minutes. On the day of your treatment, exfoliate your skin in the morning using a loofah, brush, or exfoliation mitt. Avoid salt or sugar scrubs, as they tend to be moisturizing. Do not apply any lotion before your session, and wear cotton underwear. Be sure to bring a spare pair for after the treatment.
